If you’ve ever wondered why we are having a conference on adoption, wonder no more. Here are five reasons for Together for Adoption Conference 2008.
.

  1. Vertical adoption was invented before there was an earth for man to walk on. According to Paul, God marked us out for adoption as sons before He said His first “Let there be” (Ephesians 1:5). This is what prompted John Piper to say that adoption is bigger than the universe.  If God thought adoption was worth thinking about before creating the world, it’s certainly worth a conference or two.
  2. The Son of God became Son of man so that we might receive adoption as sons (Galatians 4:4-5). If adoption was the objective of Christ’s redemptive mission, it should probably be the focus of a few conferences.  Wouldn’t you agree?
  3. The third person of the Trinity is called the Spirit of adoption (Romans 8:15). If Scripture refers to the Holy Spirit as the Spirit of adoption, certainly there’s strong warrant for a conference on adoption.
  4. Adoption has cosmic significance. Just read Romans 8:23.  If not only all creation, but we ourselves are waiting eagerly for our adoption as sons, having a conference that considers it seems like a really good idea.
  5. The God who adopts us through Jesus Christ is a Father to the fatherless. He is the Father who cares for the orphan.  Since God adopts us and cares for orphans, why not dedicate an entire conference (or three or four) to exploring this rich theme?  Can you say, “No-brainer”?

Today was a tough day. I will admit it. The easy thing to do when someone asked me how I was doing would be to lie and say “I’m good.” But the truth is, I am not. Romans 3:10-12 tells me that. Have you ever read those verses in the Bible. They say: “as it is written: None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God. All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one.” Pretty deep, huh?

But praise be to Jesus Christ that no matter what has happened, is happening, or will happen, I am free to rest in His wonderful grace. He is in charge. He is the King. He is the one who gives and takes away. No matter what…my Jesus is the one who is on the throne in Heaven interceding on my behalf. He is the protector of my soul and the lifter of my head. He is the Lion and the Lamb.

So whether I have 10 picture perfect days in a row or even if I have 10 horrible days in a row, I am not going to look to my circumstances. I am going to look to the One that really matters…Christ Jesus.

Who are you looking to today?
